Abandoned Car Blocks Santa Cruz Tunnel, Causing Major Traffic Delays

Traffic in Santa Cruz de Tenerife faced major delays on Monday afternoon after a car was left abandoned at the entrance to the Ingeniero Amigo de Lara tunnel. According to El Día, the vehicle was parked directly in a traffic lane with a sunshade in the windshield, blocking the route toward the TF-5 highway and causing significant congestion.

The unusual placement of the car, which appeared to be either abandoned or left through extreme negligence, forced other drivers to swerve to avoid it, creating a serious safety hazard.

Local police arrived at the scene to manage the traffic and remove the vehicle, eventually clearing the gridlock on Avenida La Salle. Authorities have not yet explained why the driver left the car in such a critical spot, which is a clear violation of traffic regulations that prohibit parking in areas that obstruct road visibility or flow.

The incident highlights how vulnerable the city’s infrastructure is; a single blockage at a key point like the Tres de Mayo tunnel can cause a ripple effect across the entire metropolitan road network.
