Authorities are working to identify the owner of a backpack filled with personal documents and valuables discovered by a rural guard near Tenerife’s Anaga massif this Saturday.

A backpack filled with personal documents and valuables was discovered near the Anaga massif this Saturday, once again drawing attention to the ongoing issue of litter and abandoned items in Tenerife’s rural areas. A rural guard found the bag at kilometer marker 1 of the TF-12 road, which connects San Andrés and Taganana.

After the guard alerted the Municipal Operational Coordination Center (CECOPAL), emergency services arrived to inspect the contents. The bag contained clothing, house keys, bank cards, and official documents, including a passport and driver’s license, which appear to belong to a foreign national. Local police secured the items and took them to a station, where they will work to identify the owner and determine how the bag ended up in the protected area.

According to the rural guard, finding abandoned personal belongings in this part of the island is a frequent occurrence. These recurring incidents have raised concerns about safety in popular tourist areas and the strain that such neglect places on municipal services. The investigation is ongoing as authorities attempt to contact the owner and determine whether the bag was lost by accident or abandoned under other circumstances.
