In Granadilla de Abona, municipal workers showed a video of sewage pipes clogged with grease, urging residents to dispose of waste properly and not to flush grease and wet wipes down the toilet.

In Granadilla de Abona, they showed what's happening in the sewers! Local utility workers filmed a video showing how grease and oil clog the pipes. They say they want people to understand the dangers of all this.

The municipality explains that when grease cools, it hardens and sticks to the walls of the pipes. And if you add wet wipes to it, you get a real "cork" that can lead to a sewer break. Therefore, they ask not to pour grease into the sink or toilet – this will help preserve nature.

This action is part of the #NoTiresGrasa ("Don't throw away grease") campaign. Its goal is to prevent the sewers from clogging and to make people more responsible. They say that if everyone disposes of waste properly, it will be possible to avoid big problems and preserve health.

As for wet wipes, even though they are labeled "biodegradable," they do not decompose as quickly as toilet paper. Once in the sewer, they collect with other debris and form huge blockages. This is not only expensive, but can also lead to leaks and flooding of homes, streets, and even natural areas.

And it's all very harmful to nature. Wipes that get into rivers and seas pollute the water and harm fish and plants. They release microplastics that get into food, and this already threatens human health. Therefore, experts advise throwing wet wipes only in the trash, not in the toilet.
