A tax officer from Santa Cruz was sentenced to 2 months and 20 days in prison and fined for negligent storage of important taxpayer documents, which were nearly destroyed.

A tax official in Santa Cruz received 2 months and 20 days in prison and a fine of 300 euros. He was accused of negligently storing important documents, nearly destroying them.

It turned out that the bags of documents were moved to the home of one of the tax authorities' managers to prevent their destruction.

The court established that back in 2008, when the official headed the audit department in Tenerife, he collected documents from 57 taxpayers into six large bags.

Instead of transferring these documents to the appropriate place according to procedure, he simply withheld them.

The documents included data on hotels, travel agencies, factories, car rental companies, banks, as well as well-known local organizations.

Initially, the official was also suspected of money laundering, but this charge was dropped. A jury trial was also not needed because the parties agreed on the punishment in advance.

However, the prison sentence may be replaced by a fine of 1,600 euros. The official was also banned from holding certain positions for two months.
