Los Silos rises up for the swimming pools: protest over the closure of the complex, which they want to demolish.
The residents of Los Silos are planning a protest on September 27, demanding the reopening of the swimming pools that have been closed since 2018, which they say the authorities want to demolish.
A protest is brewing in the town of Los Silos! Locals are gathering this Saturday, September 27, to defend their swimming pools. They were closed back in 2018, and people want them reopened.
It all started with a video on TikTok posted by Andrés Rial, a local resident. He asks everyone who cares to support them so that the pools are not demolished.
The young man says that the authorities want to destroy the complex, even though it is in normal condition and only needs minor repairs. "They want to destroy all our memories!" – Andrés is indignant. He also adds that the demolition will cost 2 million euros, which is too much for the town. Restoring the pools would be much cheaper.
Andrés also criticizes the authorities, who constantly refuse to allow the use of the pools, hiding behind "environmental protection". But, in his opinion, this is strange, because other projects on the coast are being approved without any problems.
For the locals, these are not just swimming pools. "It was the largest communication center in Los Silos, the heart of Isla Baja!" – says Andrés. Previously, people came here from all over Tenerife.
The protest will begin this Saturday at 10:00 a.m. in Plaza de la Luz. From there, people will walk along El Olivo Street to the roundabout at the entrance to the city. "We are a small town that loves its own, and we can make ourselves heard. We need your support!" – calls Andrés.
