On Tenerife, locals are protesting against the construction of the El Pilón windmills, fearing damage to nature and the disregard of their opinions.

In Tenerife, in the southeast, locals from the Ecomarca platform are gathering for a protest. They are protesting against the construction of the El Pilón windmills. The action will take place on Thursday, September 11, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. near the town hall of Güímar.

People do not want windmills to be placed in beautiful places where nature is protected and people who "depend on a clean environment" live.

Ecomarca says they are not against "green" energy in general, but against the way things are being done now. They say that decisions are made from above, without the locals, and the main thing is the money of the companies. Projects such as those near the Herques ravine or the Malpaís de Güímar reserve will "spoil the beauty of nature" and harm farmers and ordinary people.

The organization demands that the transition to "green" energy be fair, with respect for nature and the opinions of local residents.

They want to decide for themselves how to develop their region, and warn that the windmills will spoil the landscape and make noise, but "there will be no benefit from them."

Ecomarca is also requesting a meeting with the new city authorities. Previously, the Güímar City Council had already voted against these windmills, and the people were also against them.

But then the People's Party was against it, and now it is in power. The mayor of Güímar, Carmen Luisa Castro, believes that "the biggest problem is the appearance, because there are few people there," and wants to talk to the company that is building the windmills.
