Añaza neighborhood groups will meet with Santa Cruz City Council on January 15 to demand the urgent demolition of a dangerous unfinished hotel where a young person recently died, threatening protests if action isn't taken.

Neighborhood groups 8 de marzo and Acorán, both from Añaza, are scheduled to meet on January 15 with Carlos Tarife, the Public Services Councilor for Santa Cruz City Council. The meeting will focus on the future of the old, unfinished hotel that overlooks the coastline of this key area, where a young person died on January 4.

Mari Guanche, president of 8 de marzo, stated that if the hotel isn't urgently demolished after this meeting, they will decide on further actions. She explained that they have been asking for its demolition for years, but nothing has been done. Guanche added that the "monstrosity" has claimed many lives, and if authorities don't tear it down, the neighborhood will protest.

Regarding a protest planned for yesterday at the building, Guanche said that the groups distanced themselves from that call to avoid problems with the girl's family. She emphasized, "We are not seeking prominence; we only want to make the situation visible."
