99 Tenerife Students Graduate from International Dual Diploma Program
Ninety-nine students in Tenerife have graduated from the International Dual Diploma program, an initiative supported by the Cabildo de Tenerife to provide local youth with official North American degrees and enhanced global career prospects.
The Canary Islands have reached a new milestone in global education, with 99 students from Tenerife recently graduating from the International Dual Diploma program. Supported by public grants from the Tenerife Island Council (Cabildo de Tenerife), these students have earned an official degree from the United States or Canada alongside their local studies. This initiative is designed to give local youth a competitive edge in today’s global job market.
The graduation ceremony, held at the Adán Martín Auditorium, featured Tenerife’s president, Rosa Dávila, and the Minister of Employment and Education, Efraín Medina. The program is part of a broader strategy to improve multilingual skills among young people. Launched in 2024 by the Education and Youth Service, the initiative allows students to complete their final two years of high school by balancing in-person classes in Tenerife with online coursework from foreign institutions. This hybrid approach helps students build independence and gain experience working in digital environments.
The program’s popularity is clear, with 1,631 applications received in the latest round. Of those, 275 students applied for the Dual Diploma, while others sought immersion programs in English and French.
Beyond language proficiency, officials emphasize that the program teaches students how to adapt to different educational systems. This experience helps them develop essential life skills, such as resilience and decision-making. By providing these opportunities, the Cabildo is working to bridge the gap for local students, allowing them to meet international academic standards without having to leave home.
