Civil Guard officers arrested a 47-year-old man in northern Tenerife for driving a van laden with 906 kilograms of hashish.
Civil Guard officers have arrested a 47-year-old man after he was caught driving a van carrying 906 kilograms of hashish on a road in northern Tenerife. The arrest took place in the municipality of La Orotava during a night-time public safety check.
It happened on road TF-217 when officers from the Citizen Security Unit (USECIC) noticed a van that looked visibly overloaded at the back. This immediately made them suspicious. The van was traveling in the early hours of the morning, which made them decide to stop it.
The patrol signaled the driver to pull over at a safe spot. Their aim was to identify the driver and find out why the van was so heavily loaded.
When the driver saw the police and their signals to stop, he tried to get away. Officers reacted immediately, starting a coordinated operation to prevent risks to other road users and ensure a safe stop.
Thanks to this operation, the van was quickly intercepted without further trouble. Once stopped, officers inspected the vehicle and found 23 bales of drugs inside.
After the search, it was confirmed that the load was hashish, weighing a total of 906 kilograms. With this evidence, the driver was arrested for drug trafficking, a crime against public health.
The arrested man and the seized drugs were brought before the judicial authorities, following standard procedure. Police are still investigating to find out where the drugs came from, where they were going, and if anyone else was involved in the operation.
