84 Migrants Rescued Off Tenerife, Six Hospitalized
Maritime Rescue saved 84 migrants from a boat south of Tenerife late Tuesday, with six needing hospital treatment upon arrival.
Late on Tuesday, Maritime Rescue saved 84 migrants who were on a small boat (cayuco) about six kilometers south of Tenerife.
After they arrived at Granadilla pier, on the south side of the island, six of the migrants were taken to various hospitals. This information was released midday by the Canary Islands Government's Security and Emergency Coordinating Center (Cecoes 112).
The rescue operation began after an alert was raised. The state agency quickly sent out teams to find the boat. A Salvamar vessel then escorted it safely to the port of Tenerife.
On land, a medical team was waiting to assist the arrivals. This team included staff from the Canary Islands Emergency Service, the Red Cross, and Primary Care. In total, six of the 84 migrants who came ashore needed further medical attention and were taken to hospitals.
