241 Fake Luxury Watches Seized at Tenerife Airport
Authorities at Tenerife North airport seized 241 fake luxury watches, leading to a man being investigated for a crime against industrial property.
Authorities at Tenerife North-Ciudad de La Laguna airport have seized 241 fake luxury watches. This is part of the ongoing fight against industrial counterfeiting, a crime that causes significant financial losses for businesses and can put consumer safety at risk. The Civil Guard's Fiscal and Borders Section, working with the Tax Agency's Customs Administrator, made the seizure. A man is now under investigation for allegedly committing a crime against industrial property.
The operation took place recently during routine checks of arriving flights at the Tenerife terminal. Officials specializing in tax matters grew suspicious of a passenger's behaviour. This prompted them to question the passenger and inspect their luggage, where they discovered all 241 watches, sorted by the three luxury brands they were imitating.
Seizures like this highlight how crucial border controls are in stopping illegal trade. The case details and the seized watches have been handed over to the Tax Agency's Customs Administrator, who has also informed the legal representatives of the affected brands about their rights.
Dealing in fake products doesn't just harm the economy and reputation of legitimate brands; it can also have tax and security consequences. This incident adds to other previous investigations at Tenerife North airport. In recent months, authorities have also detected attempts to smuggle large quantities of medicines out of the islands to other countries. This clearly shows that criminal networks are actively using this airport for smuggling and illegal trade.
