The 22nd Atlantic Sonoro Festival returns this month to Tenerife and La Gomera, blending cultural workshops, visual arts, and traditional performances to foster social growth and preserve local heritage.

The 22nd Atlantic Sonoro Festival returns this month, serving as a bridge between Tenerife and La Gomera. More than just an entertainment event, the festival aims to drive social and cultural growth across the islands. Supported by the Canary Islands Government, the La Gomera Island Council, and local municipalities, the initiative highlights the value of bringing culture directly to local communities.

The festival is organized into three main areas:

In northern Tenerife, the focus is on social connection. Led by Argelio González, intergenerational workshops will take place in Icod de los Vinos on June 3rd and 22nd, organized in partnership with local departments for the elderly, equality, and the LGTBIQ+ community. Meanwhile, in the south of the island, the GF Gran Costa Adeje hotel will host a photography exhibition by Tomás and Jesús Rodríguez throughout June and July, showcasing the region’s unique biodiversity.

The heart of the festival takes place in Vallehermoso. On June 26th, the event will honor the Gara Women’s Association for their contribution to local history and development. That same day, the company Pieles will perform their production, Arahal. The festival concludes in La Gomera on June 27th and 28th with a celebration of traditional arts, including workshops on the Silbo Gomero (whistled language), chácara percussion, and drumming, followed by live performances from the Piquete Típico Cubano and the Orquesta Rokecán.

The program also features visual and performing arts designed to connect with the landscape. Artist Luigi Stinga will create a large-scale temporary sculpture at the Mirador del Almendrillo, and Burka Teatro will conclude the festival with their theatrical walking tour, Hipótesis sobre el Edén. By blending tourism with the preservation of intangible heritage, the Atlantic Sonoro Festival demonstrates how cultural identity can remain a vital, sustainable force in a modern world.
