Twenty-two people were rescued from a residential building fire in Arona early Tuesday, with four individuals treated for smoke inhalation.
Over twenty people, four of whom were injured, were rescued early Tuesday morning from a fire in a residential building in Arona.
The fire started inside a building known to house many squatters, according to sources. The flames spread across the fifth floor of the building.
The incident began just before 5:00 AM when the Canary Islands Government's 112 Emergency and Security Coordination Center received a report of a house fire on El Coronel street in Los Cristianos.
This street is located in the center of the coastal town, not far from the beach.
The injured individuals include three women, aged 86, 71, and 35, who suffered from smoke inhalation. They were transported to Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria University Hospital and Hospiten Sur. A 40-year-old man, also suffering from smoke inhalation, was taken to Hospiten Sur.
The 86-year-old woman was the most severely affected by smoke inhalation, according to the information provided.
Response
Firefighters used an aerial ladder to rescue 22 people from the building's roof. They then put out the fire and cleared the smoke from the building. Emergency medical teams also attended to five of these individuals.
A total of seven fire crews from Tenerife were involved in the operation. These included teams from the professional fire stations in Tejina de Isora and San Miguel, as well as volunteer firefighters from Adeje.
Police secured the area and carried out their necessary duties.
