Tonight, nearly 200 local choir singers will join The Sixteen orchestra and choir at the Auditorio de Tenerife for a sold-out "participatory Messiah" concert, a collaboration with Fundación La Caixa.

The Auditorio de Tenerife is hosting a special "participatory Messiah" concert tonight, Monday, at 7:30 PM. This event, a collaboration with Fundación La Caixa, will feature nearly 200 singers from local island choirs performing Georg Friedrich Händel's Messiah. They will be joined by The Sixteen orchestra and choir, all led by conductor Eamonn Dougan. Tickets for the concert have been sold out for days.

This participatory program, run by Fundación La Caixa across Spain and Portugal, offers local choirs a unique and enriching opportunity. It allows them to fulfill a dream: to perform Händel's Messiah, one of the most iconic works in choral music, alongside a professional orchestra, choir, soloists, and conductor.

The choirs taking part today are the Coral Reyes Bartlet, the Adult Choir of the Villa de la Orotava School of Music and Dance, the Coro Carpe Diem, the Coral Universitaria de La Laguna, and the Coro EnArmonia.

Fundación La Caixa has been organizing these participatory concerts for over 25 years. They give amateur singers the chance to be part of a valuable learning experience and a magnificent, large-scale musical show, performing alongside internationally acclaimed professional musicians.

This year, Fundación La Caixa is putting on six such concerts in total, held in Madrid, Valencia, Granada, and Santa Cruz de Tenerife. More than a thousand amateur singers are taking part across all these events.
