€20,000 Tenerife Jewelry Heist Raises Security Concerns
A Te Quiero jewelry store in Puerto de Santiago, Tenerife, was robbed of an estimated 20,000 euros in items last Saturday after staff were distracted, prompting a Civil Guard investigation.
A jewelry store in Tenerife was robbed of an estimated 20,000 euros worth of items last Saturday. The theft happened at a Te Quiero store in Puerto de Santiago, Santiago del Teide. This incident has once again raised concerns about security for businesses on the island, especially for Te Quiero, which has had to improve its security systems in the past due to previous crimes.
On Saturday, several people reportedly distracted staff members at the coastal store before taking the jewelry and leaving. The store reported the theft to the Civil Guard, who are now investigating.
The investigation is being handled by the Civil Guard's Investigation Area in Guía de Isora. Officers are currently reviewing security camera footage from inside the store, hoping to identify, find, and arrest those responsible. The Te Quiero company has not yet commented on the incident.
The Te Quiero jewelry chain has faced similar problems before. Over a decade ago, its stores across the island were targeted in many robberies and thefts, which led the company to gradually strengthen its security. The most serious incident in the company's history happened about fifteen years ago, when the owner at the time was kidnapped from an estate in Candelaria. During his captivity, he was taken to Anaga, assaulted, and his Volkswagen van was set on fire. The businessman managed to escape, reported what happened, and the Civil Guard arrested those responsible, who were later prosecuted.
