A social-medical center will be built in Tenerife for €26.7 million.
In Tenerife, the long-standing construction of the Acora-Añaza social-medical center, costing 26.7 million euros, has moved forward, and funds have been allocated for the restoration of the Altavista refuge and support for local grain producers.
The Vice-President of the Cabildo, Lope Afonso, announced that the construction of a new social-medical center in Acorán-Añaza (Santa Cruz) has finally started. They have already begun the procurement procedure for the works and plan to announce the tender in the coming weeks.
He announced this at a press conference after a government meeting with the island's president, Rosa Dávila. According to him, the decision to build was made by the IASS Governing Council last Friday.
Afonso added that about 26.7 million euros will be allocated for the construction of the center. The center will have 170 places for residence and 20 places for day care. He emphasized that this project could not be implemented for years due to urban planning problems, but now everything has been resolved.
The Councilor for Social Action, Águeda Fumero, noted that the construction will be financed exclusively from the Cabildo's funds.
It was previously reported that IASS plans to transfer 250 residents of Febles Campos and their 500 employees to the new center, and then renovate the old building.
Rosa Dávila also announced that the Council has approved the documents for concluding a contract for the management of the Altavista shelter, which is located in the Teide National Park. 5.9 million euros will be allocated for this for two years, with the possibility of extension for another four years.
Dávila reminded that the resumption of the shelter, which has been closed since 2020, is very important for the safety of tourists, because in 2023 there were more than 490 emergencies in this area.
In addition, the Council allocated 15,000 euros to help grain producers in Tenerife. This money will be received by farmers from the municipalities of La Guancha, San Juan de la Rambla, Los Realejos and La Orotava.
