15 Bids Submitted for New La Laguna Police Headquarters Project
Fifteen companies have submitted bids for a 200,944-euro project to transform the former San Benito bus station into a new, strategically located headquarters for the La Laguna Local Police.
Plans to turn the former San Benito bus station into the new headquarters for the La Laguna Local Police have cleared their first hurdle, drawing significant interest from the business community. Municipal officials confirmed that 15 companies have submitted bids for the project, which has a starting budget of 200,944 euros, including taxes.
The City Council’s plan goes beyond simply renovating the existing three-story, 1,611-square-meter building. The tender also covers project management and a proposal to update the local urban development plan for the surrounding 6,052-square-meter plot. This is a crucial step, as it will allow the site—currently used as a public parking lot—to be expanded in the future to include training facilities, additional services, and space for the police vehicle fleet.
Ángel Chinea, the Councilor for Works and Infrastructure, defended the decision to open the project to competitive bidding rather than handling it in-house. He noted that this approach ensures greater transparency and helps control costs. Meanwhile, Security Councilor Badel Albelo emphasized the site’s strategic value, noting that its proximity to the TF-5 highway and major city roads will help officers respond to emergencies faster and improve their overall working conditions.
The project is now in the technical review phase. A committee will evaluate the 15 proposals to ensure they meet all requirements, allowing bidders a window to correct any errors before a final decision is made. The City Council has pledged to reject any "reckless" low-ball bids, ensuring that the final project is both high-quality and financially viable for the municipality.
