The García Sanabria Park Art Room in Tenerife's capital is currently hosting an exhibition of the 11th Fotonoviembre Informative Photography Contest. It features a selection of works from the individual photography and series categories, alongside the winning images.
In the series category, the first prize went to Roberto Casañas Afonso, Jesús Yagüe Suárez, and Jesús Acosta Casañas for their work Roferas. Luz María Sosa Contreras took second place with Días sin luz. For individual photography, Filiberto Capote Martín (also known as Félix Capote) won first prize for Luz entre cenizas. Second prize was awarded to Francisco Pallero Herreros, a photojournalist for DIARIO DE AVISOS, for his photo Salto, muelle de Valleseco.
This exhibition is part of the 18th Fotonoviembre Tenerife International Photography Biennial. The biennial is organized by the Cabildo through the Isla de Tenerife Photography Center, which is linked to TEA Tenerife Espacio de las Artes. You can visit the exhibition for free until February 5. It's open Tuesday to Saturday from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM and 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. On Sundays and holidays, hours are 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
Roferas, by Jesús Yagüe, Roberto Casañas, and Jesús Acosta Casañas, captures the new landscapes created in Lanzarote by soil excavation. Luz Sosa Contreras's Días sin luz highlights the lighting issues faced by people living in Teno Alto.
Filiberto Capote Martín, known as Félix Capote, presents Luz entre las cenizas. This work remembers the September 2021 volcanic eruption in La Palma, which destroyed homes, schools, farms, and livelihoods. Over three years later, the photo shows a sign of hope in the Aridane Valley: the first banana crop being harvested on a farm rebuilt on top of the lava flow.
Francisco Pallero Herreros's Salto, muelle de Valleseco depicts young people jumping into the sea from the Valleseco pier in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. In the background, a seaplane takes off after collecting water to fight the 2023 forest fire that ravaged part of Tenerife's mountains.
