"1,100 Canary Island Surnames" Updated Edition Debuts at MUNA
The Museum of Nature and Archeology of Tenerife will host the presentation of the updated second edition of "1,100 Surnames Rooted in the Canary Islands" this Friday, featuring expanded research on Canarian family names.
This Friday at 7:00 p.m., the Museum of Nature and Archeology of Tenerife (MUNA) will host the presentation of the updated second edition of "1,100 Surnames Rooted in the Canary Islands" by Francisco García-Talavera Casañas.
The geologist and biologist will discuss his research and the 80+ new surnames added to this edition. Entry is free until the auditorium is full.
García-Talavera Casañas's expanded research helps readers trace the origins and spread of their family names, particularly in the Caribbean, a common destination for Canarian emigrants.
José Carlos Acha, the island's Culture Councilor, emphasizes that this book "preserves and shares the roots of Canarian identity through a scientific and informative lens." He adds, "García-Talavera reminds us that the history of the Canary Islands is one of diversity and the encounters that have shaped who we are today."
